creative europe

Creative Europe is the European Union’s flagship program supporting cultural and creative sectors through its three strands: Culture, MEDIA and Cross-sectoral. Since 2014, it has empowered initiatives that celebrate cultural diversity, foster artistic innovation and enhance the economic potential of creative industries across Europe.

By pushing boundaries of artistic expression and challenging traditional approaches, the program inspires groundbreaking projects that resonate globally.

Creative Europe is divided into three key strands, each aimed at reinforcing the cultural and creative sectors in Europe:

1. The Culture Strand

The Culture strand supports a broad spectrum of cultural and creative sectors, including architecture, cultural heritage, design, literature & publishing, music as well as the performing arts. This strand encourages cooperation and exchange among cultural organizations and artists within Europe and beyond, with a focus on:

  • Fostering artistic creation and innovation
  • Promoting the distribution and visibility of European content
  • Helping artists find creation and performance opportunities across borders
  • Stimulating the digital and environmental transition of European cultural and creative sectors

2. The MEDIA Strand

The MEDIA strand is dedicated to supporting the European film and audiovisual industries. It provides funding to help develop, distribute, and promote European works within the global market, particularly in today’s digital environment. Key priorities of the MEDIA strand include:

  • Encouraging cooperation across the audiovisual value chain
  • Nurturing talent and facilitating knowledge-sharing
  • Supporting innovative solutions to meet market demands and trends
  • Engaging audiences of all ages, especially younger generations

3. The Cross-Sector Strand

The Cross-sector strand aims to strengthen collaboration between different cultural and creative sectors (CCS) to address common challenges and create innovative solutions. Its main priorities include:

  • Supporting cross-sectoral transnational policy cooperation
  • Encouraging innovative approaches to content creation, access, distribution, and promotion
  • Facilitating the adaptation to structural and technological changes, particularly in the news media
  • Supporting the activities of the Creative Europe Desks

The CULTMED project proudly benefits from this support, advancing sustainable cultural tourism in the Mediterranean.
