In a meeting with Antoine Bidegain from Bordeaux Métropole, the CultMed team explored how the metropolitan area is using data-driven governance and digital infrastructure to support more equitable and inclusive tourism. As a 2022 European Capital of Smart Tourism, Bordeaux is focusing on tools that help municipalities plan for sustainability, accessibility and resident wellbeing.

From QR-coded surveys to GDPR-compliant visitor data systems, the city leverages digital tools to improve visitor flow, accessibility and service planning. Its focus on data sovereignty, citizen engagement and cross-departmental collaboration offers an adaptable governance model for cities and regions aiming to align tourism policy with sustainability goals.
