Short Description:
The cultural event “Greening Cyprus for a Sustainable Future” was held by the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI) in Agros Village in 2020, as part of CSTI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). Set in the heart of rural Cyprus, the event brought together local producers, community members, tourism professionals and policymakers to explore how cultural engagement and sustainability can be meaningfully combined.
This event featured cultural walks through the village, interactive workshops with artisans, traditional product tastings and environmental activities (i.e. tree planting). Designed with care for its ecological impact, the event adopted sustainable logistics such as digital invitations, plastic-free operations and locally sourced food.
Replicated in other rural communities across Cyprus since 2008, the event offers a practical and engaging model for organising low-impact, community-based cultural events that support local economies and promote responsible tourism.
